Other actors up for the role include James Franco, Jared Leto and James Marsden.

The film’s producer, Michelle Sy, has said that the man playing the coveted role should be able to sing and play guitar (Pattinson is able to do both). And apparently, Buckley’s mother fully supports the idea. I don’t know about you, but as far as I’m concerned, Pattinson can stick to what he knows – and dating Kristen Stewart.

Buckley tragically passed away at the age of 30. His debut album, Grace (which spawned singles such as “Last Goodbye” and the well-known cover of “Hallelujah”), continues to sell and find new fans. It is unclear at this point whether the film will be a full biopic, considering Buckley’s career was just beginning at the time of his death. However, Grace made such an impact on people around the world that there has already been numerous documentaries covering Buckley’s life.

The rumor mill is abuzz this week following reports that 1) there is a Jeff Buckley biopic in the works, and 2) Robert Pattinson may be the number one choice to play the late singer.
